Company History

The Beginning

  • On October 15, 1950 Jet Delivery was founded by James F. Zahner with the capital raised from the sale of a used Maytag washing machine.  It was initially located on Venice and Main Street in Los Angeles, CA. The first vehicles used were a 1932 Ford Model B, a 1934 Ford Sedan, an Indian motorcycle with a sidecar and a Cushman motorcycle. There was only one girl taking orders by telephone.

Growth

  • On August 25, 1982, Michael Barbata became a company stockholder and Vice President after serving as a driver, then as a dispatcher. In 1999, Michael Barbata became the President and Chief Executive Officer.

  • On October 1, 1992, Crest Orbit Delivery Service, which was established in 1946, was purchased by Jet Delivery. The merger brought together two of Los Angeles’ oldest corporations and made Jet Delivery one of the largest special delivery services in the Los Angeles basin.

  • While broadening its presence, Jet Delivery has worked to meet the needs of customers through an expanded service menu. The corporation has worked to obtain the capacity to handle all shipping needs. From same-day on demand service to nationwide service, Jet Delivery has the systems and resources in place to fulfill the most challenging and time-critical functions.

  • Toward the end of the twentieth century, the commitment to unparalleled customer service that Jet Delivery was founded on, contributed to the creation of our current presence on the World Wide Web. At our corporate site, customers have the capability to get rate quotes, track shipments, place orders, and review their account activity.

Present and Future

  • Today, Jet Delivery is a leading provider of same-day courier and logistic services within the continental United States, equipped with vehicles designed to meet all shipping needs. Over the course of the next decade, Jet Delivery will work to expand its presence in both new and existing markets while improving customer service, as well as deploy new technology to provide customers with the highest level of service.
